Thoughtfully Crafted.
Responsibly Made.
At Norman, sustainability is built into the way we design, source and manufacture our products—from responsibly managed materials and durable craftsmanship to innovations that help create more efficient homes.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
We believe exceptional products should also be thoughtfully made. Sustainability influences the way we design, source and manufacture our window treatments, with a focus on creating products that are built to last and crafted with care. From responsibly sourced materials and energy-efficient innovations to durable construction and responsible manufacturing practices, we continually seek opportunities to reduce our environmental impact while delivering products that enhance the homes they are designed for. Because creating a more sustainable future begins with making better choices—every step of the way.
Built to Last
One of the most sustainable products is one that stands the test of time. At Norman, every window treatment is thoughtfully engineered and crafted for lasting beauty, reliable performance and everyday durability. By creating products that homeowners can enjoy for years to come, we help reduce unnecessary replacement and support a more sustainable approach to home design. Behind every Norman product are carefully controlled manufacturing processes that help ensure consistent quality, precision and long-term performance across a wide range of climates and environments.
Responsibly Sourced Materials
Sustainability begins with the materials we choose. Norman carefully sources high-quality wood and other raw materials with a focus on responsible forestry, long-term durability and environmental stewardship. Depending on the product, 60% to 80% of the materials used in our shutters are wood-based, including lumber and Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF). To help protect natural resources, we select fast-growing, lightweight and durable wood species whenever appropriate. Every raw material is 100% traceable, and lumber sourced from North America complies with American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) standards for legal, sustainable and responsibly managed forestry.
Safety & Environmental Standards
At Norman, responsible product design goes beyond material selection. We are committed to meeting rigorous safety and environmental standards to help create healthier homes. Our materials and finishes comply with California's stringent Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emission requirements, helping reduce indoor air pollutants. We also follow the guidelines established by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association (WCMA) and remain committed to manufacturing window treatments that are free of harmful substances.
Responsible Manufacturing
Sustainability is reflected not only in the products we create, but also in how we make them. Norman continually refines its manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste and lessen environmental impact without compromising the quality and craftsmanship that define our window treatments. Our initiatives include recycling production materials whenever possible, reducing the use of unnecessary chemicals through cleaner manufacturing processes, transitioning to water-based paint systems, using solvent-free adhesives for select applications, and replacing traditional packaging materials with more sustainable alternatives. Together, these ongoing improvements help conserve resources while supporting a cleaner, more responsible manufacturing process.
